Watson‘s interest lies largely in the idea of introducing dualism and aesthetic, ideological and technical conflict into artistic practice. This has lead Watson to work in disciplines he has no formal training in (such as writing, sound design and electronics). This is a direct reaction against the search for ‘ideals’ which lies at the core of classical ballet (in which Watson received his training), amongst other antiquated forms of creating and appreciating art. The discomfort and naivety of this approach introduces creative problems and possibilities into the work, allowing him to escape the idea that expertise is preferable to the unholy capricious thrust of imagination.
Watson has performed/collaborated/designed nationally/internationally with/for big/small time contemporary dance/performance companies/artists including BalletLab, Dark MOFO Festival (MONA) Gekidan Kaitaisha, Lee Serle, Nana Biluš Abaffy, Brooke Stamp, Nebahat Erpolat, Chloe Chignell, Sam McGilp and others.
